If this is PG then what’s not?: Ke$sha gets down and dirty on “family friendly” dance show

News of Note Add comments

butterfly effectDannielle Miller from Enlighten Education, who I’ve run here before, has blogged on Channel 10 and its allegedly PG-rated show ‘So you think you can dance’. It brought to mind a clip I saw last week of Pamela Anderson on ‘Dancing With the Stars’. The male judge , totally beside himself, shouted: “All I could think about was sex, sex and more sex!” I don’t recall him saying anything  about her dancing ability. Maybe that’s irrelevant. Maybe she’ll win.

Family Friendly Blah Blah Blah

Shame Channel 10 and shame Fremantle Media…last night the PG-rated show turned its back keishaon its strong family following by featuring guest artist Ke$ha singing “Blah, Blah, Blah”. The lyrics included:

Don’t be a bitch with your chit chat

Just show me where you dick’s at..

I wanna dance with no pants on.

I wanna be naked and you’re wasted.

This is a great blog post by Danielle – thanks for posting it.
It worries me that quite a few mums I talk to don’t even know that Ke$ha’s songs have lyrics like this, and so aren’t particularly concerned that their children are listening to them on the radio or iPods.
Sure there was innuendo in the songs of my generation (see how old I sound!) but the lyrics were never as aggressively sexualised or explicit as this. Ke$ha is as appalling a role model as Lady Gaga and we should be helping our girls and boys to thoroughly critique their music.
